The Ministry of Community Development (MOCD) launched the awareness program “Me and My Sibling” to target the people of determination students at all Welfare & Rehabilitation Centers for People of Determination in all the emirates in addition to their siblings, families and regular students to enhance their integration and inclusion in all entertaining, sports and awareness activities.
On this occasion, Wafa Hamad Bin Sulaiman, Director of Welfare & Rehabilitation Department for People of Determination at the Ministry of Community Development stated that the program comes as part of the ministry’s plan coinciding with the initiatives of the national policy for empowering people of determination especially in the pillars of quality of future life, community involvement and active life. The activities of the program “Me and My Sibling” ensures their inclusion in all cultural and social activities to be organized in all the welfare and rehabilitation centers for people of determination all over the emirates to enhance the role of the people of determination siblings and encourage them to support these categories all in activities and programs.
Dubai Welfare and Rehabilitation Center for People of Determination organized an awareness and training program for the people of determination siblings about all the types of disabilities, methods of dealing with them and raising awareness of reducing abuse. The program also discussed the basic services presented by government entities in cooperation with Dubai Municipality and Dubai Civil Defense to implement an education recreational program for the people of determination and their siblings to be participated by regular school students including Zumba sports, gymnastics, Taekwondo, Swimming, little farm and handicrafts.
Ajman Welfare and Rehabilitation Center for People of Determination also organized a workshop about handicrafts focusing on recycling and embroidery, robot, musical skills in addition to an entertainment trip for the people of determination students and their siblings. Dibba Fujairah Welfare & Rehabilitation Center for People of Determination also organized a championship for BOCCE games and knowledge skills.
Additionally, Fujairah Welfare & Rehabilitation Center for People of Determination organized an entertainment educational program in cooperation with Fujairah Nursery and another entertainment program in Fujairah Mall in participation of the people of determination and their parents, a swimming program for autism students with their siblings. Ras Al Khaimah Welfare & Rehabilitation Center for People of Determination and Early Screening Center and Um Al Qiwain Autism Center organized a drawing workshop and other sports and entertainment activities for the people of determination students, parents, siblings and their school colleagues in general.
“Me and My Sibling” program also included summer activities to develop their sensory and muscular skills, kinetic visual synergy and social communication. It also included a workshop called “my doll is made by my hand”, a symbolic project for manufacturing dolls by using simple tools and materials available around us to produce dolls in different shapes and colors. This activity is addressed to improve the sensory and muscular skills and kinetic visual synergy. The workshop “how to make healthy clay for my sibling” aimed for training the people of determination siblings on how to manufacture healthy clay from food components and natural food colourings.
