HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reviews DEWA’s key initiatives and programmes to reshape future of services at GITEX 2020

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, visited Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA’s) stand at GITEX Technology Week 2020. His Highness was welcomed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Al Tayer briefed His Highness about DEWA’s key strategies and initiatives in innovation to reshape the future and quality of services to all customers and stakeholders. These include Digital DEWA, its digital arm, which will disrupt the entire business of public utilities. Digital DEWA has four pillars. The first pillar is launching advanced solar power technologies. The second pillar is deploying a renewable energy grid with innovative energy storage technologies to meet the goals of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050. To do this, DEWA is building the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which will be the largest single-site solar park in the world, with a capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2030. The solar park covers a range of solar power technologies, including research and development, innovation in power generation, energy storage, and continuous improvement to ensure leading results in clean energy. The third pillar is expanding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make Dubai the first city to provide AI-based electricity and water services. The fourth pillar includes DEWA’s Data Hub Integrated Solutions LLC (MORO’s) data hub to provide advanced and innovative digital solutions, locally and globally, as well as launching Digital-X, and Infra-X as subsidiaries of Digital DEWA.

Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future at DEWA, presented some of DEWA’s projects in digital transformation and automation. These include the Smart Living initiative, which enables customers with smart electricity and water meters to monitor their consumption and get daily, monthly, and annual reports though a digital dashboard on DEWA’s smart app and website; the four-legged Spot Robots for internal operations; and the wearable robotic exoskeletons to increase efficiency and accuracy and protect the health and safety of staff.

With the theme ‘Inspiring the Next Generation of Breakthroughs,’ DEWA presents a number of its services that use robots and AI at its stand at Sheikh Saeed Hall at GITEX Technology Week. These include Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to enhance its Geographic Information System’s operational performance; and DEWA’s virtual employee Rammas. This is available on DEWA’s website, smart app, Facebook page, Amazon’s Alexa, Google Assistant, robots, and WhatsApp Business. DEWA also has on display its interactive Hab-Reeh service that enables Shams Dubai project contractors to check that their projects meet DEWA’s standards for power quality before submitting them for approval. DEWA is also showing its subsidiaries, and their projects, such as Moro, Digital X, and Infra X.
