March 17, 2019

The Dubai Metro Music Festival, a celebration of global music organised by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office, in partnership with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), is set to begin tomorrow (Sunday).

The free-to-attend Festival, which will feature performances by international musicians from a range of unique musical genres, will be held at five Dubai Metro stations - Burjuman, Union, DMCC, Mall of the Emirates and Burj Khalifa.

With an eclectic line-up of 25 musicians from across the world, the Festival promises to enthrall Dubai’s public over seven days of enchanting performances. All the performances will be rotated across the seven days of the festival to cover the five metro stations. The performances will take place from 6.00 am to 11.00 am and 4.00 pm to 9.00 pm.

Shaima Al Suwaidi, City Branding Manager, Brand Dubai said: “We are delighted to welcome musicians from across the world taking part in the Dubai Metro Music Festival. Brand Dubai is committed to support the effort to create a vibrant environment in Dubai for art, music and culture to flourish. This event reflects Dubai’s diverse and inclusive character. The Festival will feature a host of musicians from both traditional and non-traditional genres of music. Innovative instruments, some of them invented by the musicians themselves, and offbeat musical styles featured in the event are expected to draw big audiences.”

Rowdah Al Mehrizi, Marketing and Corporate Communication Director in RTA said: “RTA is pleased to partner with Brand Dubai to present this truly unique event to the public.  We are committed to working with diverse partners to transform the cultural experience that Dubai offers to both residents and visitors and create vibrant venues for art and music to flourish. Holding the Festival’s shows at the Dubai Metro stations will help to make the musical performances easily accessible to the public. The Metro Music Festival makes a unique statement about Dubai’s identity and values and raises its profile on the global cultural map as a hub for artists and musicians from across the world to showcase their talent. Through this collaboration with Brand Dubai, we also seek to create opportunities for the public to connect with some of the world’s best musicians.”

The musicians performing at the Festival, who include traditional musicians, street performers, classical instrumentalists and fusion musicians, are considered some of the most talented musical performers in their respective countries.

Musicians participating in the event said that the Festival gives them a unique platform for their music. Expressing their keenness to perform in one of the world’s most cosmopolitan and diverse cities, they said the Festival gives them an opportunity to create new conversations and connections through the universal language of music.

The Metro Music Festival is a rich addition to Dubai’s busiest cultural season, which also features global events like the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, Art Dubai, the SIKKA Art Fair and World Art Dubai.
