DEWA's Innovation Centre participates in two of IRENA's Student Leaders Programme seminars

Dubai Electricity & Water Authority's (DEWA)’s Innovation Centre presented two interactive seminars as part of the International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) GROWTH@IRENA Student Leaders Programme (SLP), which aims to prepare the future generation of renewable energy professionals. The first seminar titled 'Innovation and Project Development' focused on DEWA's efforts in the field of clean energy, as well as the skills necessary for youth to develop their experience and address the challenges and rapid changes in the industry. The second seminar included an assessment of the pitches submitted by the students during the programme.

"DEWA's Innovation Centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park aims to support innovation and creativity in clean and renewable energy, raise awareness about sustainability, develop Emirati talent and enhance the UAE competitive advantage in this promising sector. The Centre also helps achieve the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to empower young people and encourage them to build the nation, and anticipate and shape the future. DEWA adopts an integrated strategy to empower and support young people, and engage them in different areas of national work. This stems from believing that today’s youth are the leaders of the future and the cornerstone of ensuring a brighter future for generations to come, "HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA said.

Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President - Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, highlighted the importance of joining efforts to invest in developing the youth capabilities, paving their paths in clean and renewable energy sectors, and achieving sustainable development goals by harnessing the power of innovation and technology. The Innovation Centre also aims to build a strong collaboration with schools, universities, start-ups, local and international organisations, knowledge exchange and organising exhibitions.

"The Innovation Centre strengthens and develops the next generation of innovators in clean energy technologies. This is achieved through sharing experiences, developing the skills and experiences, as well as providing a unique experience to explore the latest innovations in clean energy technologies. We at the Innovation Centre know the effectiveness of young people in serving the nation. It is the first and largest government centre to receive the ‘Done by Youth’ seal from the Federal Youth Authority, developed by a team of young Emiratis," said Dr. Aaesha Al Nuaimi, Director of DEWA's Innovation Centre.
